ROCKING DEAD!!
oh my god! next weekend, the rocking dead are playing in Minneapolis! 93x was giving away tickets, and passes to party with the band before the show, and I WON. lily is so jealous. she’s been listening to 93x for the last two weeks, trying to win those passes, but all she got were the regular tickets to the show. so, ghnaah and i are going to the pre-show, and then lily, andrew, and lady acaia deathblossom (claire) are going to meet us for the concert. i’m really excited, but at the same time it makes me kind of sad. matthew LOVED the rocking dead. i took him to see one of their concerts this summer, and it was great. so, i can’t help but think of him a lot. i wish that i could take him with me to meet the band. i said in THIS POST how z (the bassist) was our role model for matthew, so it would have been great for them to meet. but, you know, whereever matthew is now, he’d want me to be happy. that’s all he ever wanted, even after he turned. so, i’ll go with ghnaah, and lily and everyone, and i’ll have a great time.
oh, right. ghnaah and i are going out now. i really like him. at first, i just thought he was strange, but i’ve realized that he really just loves zombies. he’s just such a great guy. and HOT. ;) my parents actually kind of like him, which surprised me. honestly, that kind of freaked me out. not that i want them not to like him, but they gave me so much grief when i started hanging out with lily, and dressing zothic, and here’s patrick, who’s dressed just like that, and introduces himself as ghnaah, and they didn’t say a word about it. i don’t get them! but, i guess it’s good that they like him. means they won’t try to stop me from seeing him. i don’t know if this is going to last a long time, or what’s going to happen. i do like him, but i’m starting to work on college applications, so i have all that in my head. AAH! ghnaah’s a junior, so he’s not really much help on any of this. :( oh well. anyway, i’m just not thinking about what happens later. i like him a lot. he makes me happy, so that’s good enough.
well, i’m going to try and get better about updating this regularly, but we’ll see. i’ll be back.

new friends and RESIDENT EVIL
i’ve started hanging out with lily since matthew died. i mentioned her a while back; she was one of the zoths who came to film fest the dla did. not to sound too cliched angsty teen, but she and her friends are really the only ones who seem to understand my feelings these days. i still care about the zoms, you know. i mean, i spent 4 years living with a deceased brother. but there just doesn’t seem any point in trying to change the world, do something about it on a big scale. these zoth kids, though, they’re really just showing respect for the mobile deceased on a personal level. i can’t bring matthew back again (too bad zoms can’t go double-zombie or something). and i can’t change the way the rest of the world treats people like him. but, whereever he is, i can show him that he, and all the other zoms who we’ve killed won’t be forgotten. i’m not going to change my name (lily has one friend, patrick, who goes by “ghnaah.” last week he got a detention because he was only responding to mrs simmons in groans. he’s kinda nuts. cute but nuts. ;)), but i’ve started wearing more rags. i know i should feel like a hypocrite, but i just didn’t understand it before. i don’t know that i would say that it’s wrong to dress a zom family member in “normal” clothes, but i have realized that it’s kind of insensitive; i mean, it’s the same sort of cultural homogenization like making native peoples dress like everyone else. also, it’s just not really honest, you know? they wouldn’t change their clothes every day on their own. once you turn, you do change. it’s kind of denial of what they are if you try to make them dress like non-deceased people. am i a zoth now? i don’t think so, but lily makes a lot of sense. i’m definitely not as far gone as brainygirl!
ANYWAY, i went to see the new resident evil movie last week with lily and ghnaah. they just keep getting further and further from the facts. the first one was no documentary, but at least it tried to stick relatively close to the truth (except for the secret evil corporation stuff… so far as WE know :)). “based on a true story,” then “inspired by a true story.” i don’t think this one was even “inspired.” sure, it was fun, i guess (if you’re into slaughtering innocent zombies who are just a product of their circumstances, and don’t really know any better), but if i were the real alice parks, i’d be kind of pissed at this point. she better be making a lot of money (and at least milla jovovich is hot). i saw mrs parks give a talk once. it was pretty interesting. she’s a big proponent for zombie rights these days, actually. she was speaking at a dra rally, about progress towards a cure. strange to know she was the same person who killed all those zoms in raccoon city.
well… i guess that’s it. night all!

in memory
i haven’t written anything in a while. i just haven’t been up to it.
matthew is gone. dead. the doctors kept calling him inactive, since legally he had been dead for the last 4 years. i don’t care what the law says. those bastard phobes killed my brother. the cops figured out who it was, too, but they didn’t do a thing, just fined them. said that it was just minor vandalism. boys will be boys. bull@# is what it is. it wasn’t vandalism, like matthew was a car or our window. it was a hate crime. they killed my brother because he was a zom.
i think that’s why i haven’t written anything for a while. i stopped working with the dead-live alliance, too. stepped down as chair, stopped going to meetings. what’s the point, you know? bad enough that matthew was attacked in the first place, but when the cops know who did it, and they don’t do a thing about it… they beat my brother to death. they hurt him so badly that he lost what little function the mobile deceased have. we still know so little about the whole process of zombification, but whatever it is that makes them keep going just couldn’t beat whatever damage was done by those guys. he started to rot, just fell apart. and the worst the law could do was fine them. disgusting. as hard as i’ve worked, and it seems that we’ve barely made any progress in the last 6 years. it used to be that, no matter how bad things got, you could say “at least they’re not killing zoms in the street anymore.” it’s almost funny.
my parents and i are fighting a lot since it happened. they keep trying to convinve me to say involved, saying it’s a way to honor matthew’s memory. i just can’t see the point. they (with the dla) put together a remembrance ceremony/rally in matthew’s honor. it just seemed tacky to me. how can we “honor his memory” when the phobes who killed him (and the people like them) are walking around scot-free. matthew mattered, but it sure doesn’t seem that way. and if he doesn’t matter, none of this does. barely anyone even showed up to the thing, anyway. my parents said thatjust showed how far we have left to go, how much we have left to do. i think it just shows how little we’ve done. how little i’ve done.
i loved my brother, but that’s not enough. i can’t keep fighting when i don’t seem to get anywhere. how can i try so hard for deceased rights when the whole word just keeps telling me that nobody cares? maybe my parents can, but i can’t. i’m sorry matthew.
the newspaper wouldn’t print his obituary.

matthew
god. the last two days have been horrible. matthew was attacked after school on thursday. i really don’t want to write too much about it. he’s still functioning, but he was severely damaged, and nobody really knows if they can do anything for him. at the same time, they don’t know if he needs anything done for him. people have never really done much research into healing zombies. we’ve always been much more concerned with killing them than keeping them alive. so, um… here’s the ap story about what happened. i went ahead and took out the identifying info. if you really want to know who i am or where i am, you can just search for the story, but i don’t care.
XXXX, Minn. – A mobile deceased teenager named Matthew XXXX was attacked and severely beaten by several unknown assailants in the XXXX High School parking lot.
Police officials say that they are assuming that the attack was politically motivated. Matthew was serving as a test case for allowing mobile deceased into public schools, and had just started attending classes on Tuesday, the first day of the new school year.
On Matthew’s second day of classes, he and his sister [zombiegrrl] had to cross a picket line of other students and their parents. Protesters claimed that they were concerned over the safety of the students, as well as what some have called the “clandestine admission” of Matthew to the school, referring to the secrecy in which the test case was arranged.
Matthew’s parents said that shortly after the end of Matthew’s first school day, they started receiving an incredible number of phone calls, from people on both sides of the issue. The phone calls have continued unabated ever since. In their daily reports to the school district, Matthew’s family made multiple references to threats, both called in to the family’s home, and made directly to Matthew at school.
After school on Thursday, a group of masked teenagers met Matthew, his sister, and his hired caregiver in the school parking lot, as they were preparing to leave for home. Two of the assailants held [zombiegrrl] and the caregiver, while four others proceeded to attack Matthew. After the attack, the assailants left quickly without saying anything further.
Matthew is currently in protective custody. A spokesman for the police claimed that he was receiving medical care, although few doctors are qualified to care for deceased Americans. The official also stated that the police had several leads, and were investigating the case with “extreme diligence.”
Matthew’s family have stated publicly that they will not be intimidated, and that Matthew will return to school when he is able.
i’ll probably post something else about this in the next day or two, but right now, i just can’t deal with this anymore. i’m fine. matthew’s stable. i’ll be back sometime soon.

first day of school
well, today was the first day of school for the year, for me and for MATTHEW! it went okay. there were a LOT of people who had a problem with him being in the school. we weren’t keeping it a secret (obviously) but we (and the school board) were keeping it quiet, so most people were surprised by it. my parents got several phone calls tonight after school; it looks like there might be some picketing tomorrow morning. :( oh well. hopefully, they won’t cause too much trouble. and not everyone was upset by it. a bunch of matthew’s old friends were actually pretty happy to see him. that’s one of the more depressing things about getting turned, most people just cut off contact with you. only a couple of his friends have actually come by to see him since he got turned, so today a lot of them were really surprised (and impressed:) ) by how… alive? he seems. how much he’s still like he used to be. as for matthew himself, he handled it all really well. no disturbances (at least none that were his fault), and he seemed to be enjoying being in school again (more than i was, definitely). i only had one class with him, but he was paying attention and everything. but, heck, i’d be excited about school too if i didn’t have to do any homework or anything. lucky zom :P.
when we pulled into the parking lot this morning, and walked into the building, people just STARED. it was like one of those moments in movies when everybody just stops talking and watches you. Every Single Person. crazy. i had told some of the kids in the dla, so they walked up and started talking to us, and after that, some of his old friends came over and said hi, and then people started talking again, even if they were mostly talking about matthew. when we left at the end of the day, same basic thing. peope just watched us leave.
as we were leaving, there was one bit of unpleasantness. two guys, who i had never even met before, tried to intimidate us. told me i shouldn’t bring my “CORPSE” of a brother back to school tomorrow. i couldn’t believe it, i mean, i knew that there were people at this school who weren’t crazy about zombies, or didn’t get why we need to protect them, but i guess i just assumed that people were smart enough not to toss around slurs like that. i was so angry, i didn’t even know what to say to them. i just told them that matthew was definitely coming back and then i asked them to get out of our way, so we could get home. they didn’t seem too happy with that, but they didn’t say anything else. they were the only ones who really said anything bad about it, to me at least. a bunch of people told me how surprised they were, and told me they figured other people would have a problem with it (but THEY were fine with it, of course)… i don’t know. i just hope those phobes, and their friends, leave matthew alone. i don’t know what i’d do if something bad happened to him, especially over this. i mean, him going back to school was my idea, so… i just hope nothing happens to him.
well, i’ve got homework to do. oh, and get this. for matthew, every day we have to fill out a report on how his school day went. his companion keeps notes on his behavior during the day, and then we have to put that together with our own observations, and any other notes. those two necrophobes in the parking lot this afternoon are definitely going in the report. hopefully, the school board will keep an eye on them. that is, if anybody over there actually pays attention to these reports. i can totally see them just scanning it to make sure matthew didn’t bite anybody, then tossing it in a filing cabinet.
anyway, i’ll keep people posted on matthew. only three more days until the first weekend of my SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. :D!

School Days!
school starts tomorrow! normally, i wouldn’t be so excited, but the other week i hinted that i’d have some super-big way-secret news coming up, and here it is: matthew’s going to be going to school with me this year. that’s right, the school board is letting matthew be the test case for mobile deceased in the classroom. honestly, i was shocked that they even considered it. when they said yes, i was AMAZED. there are definitely going to be some pretty strict rules and restrictions for him, but he’ll be in the class! obviously, he’s got to have his muzzle and shackles on at all times, and we had to provide a trained assistant to accompany him at all times, like an interpreter for a hearing impaired student, so it’s not that different. if, you know, we made deaf kids wear chains and muzzles. :( he seems pretty excited about it too. he’s a lot more restless than usual, and he keeps trying to talk. speaking of talking, i think that i’m making progress in understanding his groans. that’s one of the projects that i’ll be pushing through with the dla this year, trying to get some sort of lexicon put together. oh my gosh!! the dla will actually have a dead student in it this year! i hadn’t even thought about that. before now, matthew and other deceased “members” would come to events, but since zoms aren’t (weren’t!) allowed on public school grounds, matthew couldn’t come to meetings, or any of our at-school events.
i figure that there’s going to be some people who will have a hard time with this, but f*@& them, you know? my parents pay taxes, and matthew deserves an education just as much as anyone else does. i’ll make sure to make a post tomorrow after school to let everyone know how it went.
in other news, have you guys seen the previews for the Discovery channel’s new show this season, the Zombie Hunter? it’s absolutely horrible! i couldn’t believe that the discovery channel would do something like this, they’re usually such a great channel. for those of you who haven’t heard about it, it’s like this bounty hunter kind of guy, but he goes around hunting down mobile-deceased who have attacked people, or escaped from farms, things like that, and he kills them! on tv! first off, it’s bad enough that zoms can be killed like that. it’s like pitbulls; the reason they attack people is because of the way they’re treated by the living, but they’re still the ones who have to pay. then, to add insult to injury, they put this on tv for people to watch? this is ENTERTAINMENT? what is wrong with people today!? i already sent them a letter telling them how terrible i thought this show was, and i’m definitely going to try and put together a boycott. so remember, don’t watch the zombie hunter, and if you’re as upset by this as i am, go ahead and write in and tell them. we’ve done it before, people; we got FOX to pull “when zombies attack,” we can get this one killed too. it’s great the networks are starting to pay attention to the deceased demographic, but this isn’t the image of zombies that we want out there.
by the way, that guy i posted a link to last week, the lake of fire necrophobe, he made another pretty creepy post talking about me and what i said about him, which kind of scared me at first. but, i mean, he’s all the way out in pennsylvania, or somewhere, and besides he didn’t put up a new “sermon” yesterday, so who knows, maybe he stopped. but, seriously, people should look at that last one of his, about me. CREEPY. although, at the same time kind of neat, that some random guy halfway across the country was motivated enough by something i wrote to get so worked up. the internet’s pretty nifty!
sorry this post was so late, but there was a lot of stuff to deal with to get matthew into school, and i wanted to be able to tell everybody that it was happening. i’ll be back tomorrow to fill you in on the first day!

movie marathon!
so, last night, we had a movie marathon, to raise awareness of deceased issues. we wanted to show people some fun movies, but also show them how negative (and really just inaccurate! i mean, that new Dawn of the Dead (which was really just insensitive, releasing it right as things were quieting down) showed zoms running around, really quick, which is just not true!) the media sometimes portrays PEOPLE like my brother, or other mobile deceased. SO we wound up with kind of a mix, including this documentary that came out a couple of years ago, “Walking Dead: The Rising Threat”, which was just horrible. My friend henry was there, along with his deceased cousin, and they were actually featured in the movie. henry and his parents were interviewed about keeping a deceased relative in homecare. henry says that the guys who did the movie just twisted what they all said and edited it so that they seemed kind of weird and made jeff (henry’s cousin) seem dangerous and uncontrollable. watching it, i was shocked, because jeff is one of the sweetest zoms i’ve ever met. i bet you could take off his muzzle, even, and he’d be fine, wouldn’t try and hurt anyone. it was really just dishonest!
anyway, even worse than that movie, though, were these zoth kids who showed up. i knew two of them from school, but the others i hadn’t met before. these SHAMblers drive me crazy, i mean, a lot of them mean well, you know? we always have several in the dead-live alliance, and you can tell that a bunch of them really care about the cause, but COME ON. one of the girls last night, her mom’s on a work farm, and she was talking about solidarity and, i don’t know, “creative lifestyle protest,” but they just look silly. and honestly, i just think it’s a little bit offensive. they all wear rags and really gross makeup. zoms haven’t looked like that for years! we don’t do like some families do, and put blush on matthew so he looks alive (which is just creepy, anyway), but he’s not really decomposing (no eyeballs falling out, thank you very much) and as for their rags, one of those zoths had the nerve to tell me that it was insensitive and wrong to dress matthew in normal clothes. i expect bulls$@% like that from the phobes, but these kids are supposed to be on our side! it’s crap like that that shows that these SHAMblers are all about the fashion statement, or teenage rebellion. that’s why they make me so angry. just go see rocky horror, or start doing drugs, and stop making me look bad.

disgusting
one of my friends showed me this new blog today. this is exactly the kind of person that causes problems for mobile deceased like my brother, who are well taken care of and well behaved. honestly, this sort of prejudice is just like what african americans went through 60 years ago. it really underlines the importance of the deceased rights act. i mean, i’m almost scared of what this stephen guy might do.
i’m telling you, people. if we don’t resolve all of these issues with the mobile deceased, and truly welcome them, then one day soon, some wack-job fundamentalist like this stephen guy will push things too far, and we’re going to have a big problem on our hands. i hope i’m wrong, but i can see it happening way too easily. prove me wrong, people. talk to your congressmen (and women ;)) about the dra.
so school starts in just a couple of weeks. exciting. im really psyched for this year to start. i think that i can get a lot done with the alliance. (and i’ve got a really exciting secret, but i don’t want to talk about it until it’s for sure going to happen, but *sqweee* so excited!!!)
well, it’s getting late, and i have a busy day tomorrow. night everybody!

FIRST (real) POST
hey everybody, i’m zombieGRRL. like i said in the survey below, i won’t tell you my real name, so dont ask. i’m a high school student in Minnesota (near minneapolis), but i’m almost done. i started this blog because i wanted to be able to post somewhere about how i was doing and the day to day drama of my life (heh), but more than that, i wanted to talk about zombies.
i’ll just tell you right from the beginning here that i am a dead rights activist. (altho, i have no problem with saying ‘zombie.’ ‘mobile deceased’ might be more PC, but it’s just so… snooty? just don’t call them corpses) im going to be the president of the dead-live alliance at my school once the new year starts, and i had an internship earlier this summer with a lobbying group. heh, i was one of those people on the corner of hennepin with the clipboards, that you ignored when i tried to get you to sign a petition for deceased worker quotas or increased cure funding. it’s cool, though, i had a blast!
my brother is a zombie. he got bit back in 2003, during the cleanup. he was actually one of the test cases for home-care of the dead. my parents worked really hard to keep him safe. i know some families stick their zoms in a cage or something, and that’s just mean, i think. nowadays, we keep the muzzle on (duh), but other than that, he can go wherever he wants. he knows not to leave the property, too. Deceased Americans are smarter than most people realize, they’re just slower to learn than the living. (have you seen the brains awareness spots? i helped work on those!)
so, i’ve lived with a zom for almost 4 years, and i know what they’re like. yes, they can be dangerous, but as long as wer’e careful, and treat them with respect, they’re just fine. and it’s totally worth it! I know that my brother isn’t the same as he used to be, but he’s still the same person, and he’s a good person. he loves me, and i can tell. if one of your relatives gets turned, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep them at home. home-care deceased (unless you’re an abusive a#@-hole, and yes, neglecting them counts as abuse) are less violent, more intelligent, and have better coordination than the state wards. and if you keep them at home, there’s no chance of them winding up on one of the work-farms or (shudder) in Iraq (vote yes on the Deceased Rights Act!!!!!!!). in june i toured one of those farms, and it was horrible. if people saw the conditions in those places, they would NEVER send their zoms there.
Sooooo, that’s enough seriousness for today. i’m a HUUUUGE fan of the rocking dead. they played a special version of ‘won’t stay down’ asan encore, and it was awesome. Z, the bassist, had an incredible solo. z is kind of matthew’s role model (i mean, our role model for Matthew). his friends and family took such good care of him that his post-decease mobility is almost as good as when he was living. they were pretty strict about keeping people off the stage, though. the roy’s insurance is pretty dick, i guess. all of the deceased fans had to use the full solid gag-style muzzles. at least they let us in. first ave has a strict no-zombie policy. they use the health-code excuse, which is bulls*@! anyway, the show was really good, and i could tell that matthew was really enjoying it. he was almost dancing a little. he would have been dancing more, if it weren’t for the shackles (vote yes on the Deceased Rights Act!!!)
well, that’s a lot more than i meant to write for this first post, so i’ll stop now. thanks for visiting me, and i hope you come back!
